The BttF Online
RPG is similar to Dungeons & Dragons (well, at least what I know about
D&D). ItÕs an adventure game, in which the players attempt to Òlevel upÓ
while going on time travel adventures and interacting with their online
surroundings and fellow players.
First thingÕs
first, before the game can begin there must be someone designated as ÒFather
Time.Ó Father Time does not play the game. Rather, Father Time is the equivalent
of D&DÕs Dungeon Master, setting up the adventures for the players and
basically running everything that the players cannot run themselves (such as
items available and events that will take place). Since IÕm hosting the game, I
will act as Father Time for the time being.
There must be
at least two additional players to start a game. These two players will select
a time traveler from the BttF trilogy (for the first game, we will only use
1985 characters to start with), and will then be issued an online player card,
pictured below.
This would be
the card for 1985 Marty McFly. The grey box indicates the playerÕs current
attributes, his Time Traveler Skills, Intelligence, Dexterity, the number
of missions heÕs accomplished, and finally the characterÕs overall level.
By playing the online RPG the character will be able to advance these levels.
The calculation for the overall character level is:
The average
of the playerÕs time traveler skill, intelligence and dexterity, plus the
# of missions accomplished.
Character Level
is a great way of showing off and proving that youÕre the best time traveler of
the bunch. Plus, some missions will require a certain skill level before you
can accomplish them.
The orange box
indicates the general status of the player - his current available
transportation, where he is currently located, his present time, his gigawatt
reserve (1.21 needed for one trip), what he is carrying with him, and what he
is wearing. All of these factors will be important during certain missions and
events.
Now, if you
want to select a player, go the message topic and request who you would like.
As said above, please select a character available in 1985.
Once you have
your character of choice and two players are available, the RPG can begin.
Father Time will explain where you are located in Hill Valley. You can use the
maps on the main page to get information about the items, transportation and
apparel available in these area as they are discovered by the players in the
game.
Now it is up to
you the players to decide how the story will take place. In the RPG topic,
simply type what you want to do. Say you want to go to the clock tower. Type ÒI
get in my (transportation) and go to the clock tower.Ó
After that you
need not post again until Father Time posts another message, indicating what
either happened on your way to the clock tower, or what you find at the clock
tower. Get it?
Go where you
wish, explore what you wish, find items and transportation and figure out a way
to time travel. Certain missions will become available as Father Time is able
to come up with them. Generally, depending on the items you may find or events
that may take place, you will be presented with a mission of some sort to
accomplish. This should all be easier to understand once you play.
There is also a
chronology of events available so that you can look back at your past
adventures, and also a time chronology, so that you can see what happened on a
certain day (especially needed if you plan to time travel to a day some other
player has already traveled to, or you yourself have already traveled to).
There are some
other basic rules, but these can be addressed in the topic itself when they
come up (because IÕm not even fully aware of them, and IÕm sure some other
things will come up).
This is a
never-ending RPG. Maybe. I havenÕt decided if a player should retire at a
certain level or not. WeÕll see if it ever comes to that. ThereÕs also a leader
board, so that the highest leveled players are ranked per game (leveling up is
of course decided by Father Time) and a Hall of Fame, for the greatest
individual players to play the RPG.
IÕm being kind
of optimistic that this game will reach those types of levels, but I wouldnÕt
be spending my time making this if I didnÕt hope. Also, IÕm not sure what will
happen if I keep constantly updating on a free web server. Maybe nothing. WeÕll
see.
So give the
game a shot. IÕm not sure if it will be good or not, but letÕs see what
happens. Have fun!
